Michael Chavez has a PhD in Bioengineering from Stanford University. As part of Professor Stanley Qi’s lab, Michael specializes in merging synthetic biology and immunology to engineer novel CRISPR tools for cell-based therapies.

At Fifty Years, Michael supported bio partnerships, lending a scientific perspective to the team’s expertise. He’s particularly passionate about discovering and supporting founders as they look to solve this generation’s biggest challenges with technologies started in the lab.

Michael’s previous research in cancer immunotherapy and artificial cell technology sparked an obsession with using synthetic biology to advance medicine, clean chemistry, cellular agriculture and beyond. He’s excited to not only have the opportunity to pursue this obsession within the lab, but also support like-minded people looking to change the world.

A Bay Area native, Michael loves to explore San Francisco and is excited to have hobbies again after the completion of his degree.
