Bridging carbon markets and agriculture - a scalable tool for negative emissions

by David Babson

Bridging carbon markets and agriculture promises to create a scalable tool for negative carbon dioxide emissions. This seminar dealt with the challenges and possibilities therein. What are the technologies required to support robust carbon markets for agricultural lands? Who are the current players? How scalable are the current solutions? What new technologies are needed in order to achieve the most ambitious climate targets?

David Babson is a Program Director at the Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA‑E). His focus at ARPA-E includes bioenergy, agricultural systems innovation, and carbon management. Prior to joining ARPA-E, he served as the Senior Advisor for Renewable Energy, Natural Resources, and the Environment in the Office of the Chief Scientist at the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).

There, he led R&D coordination efforts on carbon management, climate adaptation, sustainability, agricultural systems innovation, bioenergy, and biotechnology. David earned a Ph.D. in Chemical and Biochemical Engineering from Rutgers University.
